We’ll be giving thanks (read: EATING)

Which means I’m signing off for a looooong weekend.  We’ll be having a quiet country Thanksgiving and will spend the day eating, working on puzzles and no doubt snoozing in front of the TV during the Titans’ game.  The weather forecast looks delightful so we may even rake up a few leaves and enjoy some [...]

Giving Thanks

Well if the newspaper headlines are any indications, the world should stop spinning any moment right now.  So, it’s been nice knowing ya.  Enjoy your final meal.
Not so quick!!!
Yes, these are difficult times and that is precisely why it is more important than ever to give thanks…even for the things you’re not necessarily thankful for.  [...]

School’s such a gas!

The call of the wood duck strikes again!  This time in a Martin Country, FL school where a 13-year-old boy was arrested for “breaking wind”.  He then “shut off computers” the other students were using.  (It was unclear as to if the computer’s shut down were as a result of the noxious blasts.)
The Sheriff’s department [...]

Pilot has nervous breakdown; I understand how you feel, honey

Read this via the Drudge Report today–Commercial Pilot has nervous breakdown over the Atlantic Ocean.  Thankfully, there was a plucky flight attendant to assist the emergency landing and none of the 141 passengers were harmed.  (Not considering the mental impact of a flight attendant calming inquiring, “Are there any licensed pilots on board?”)
Boy, can I [...]

A few people who bless me

I tell ya with all the negative stuff going on, I thought it would be nice to toot the horn of some people that I’m thankful for.
Do you like my “do” in my headshot here?  Well, that’s thanks to the skillful eye and hands of Scarlett Pierce.  Scarlett is a dear friend and an exceptional [...]

Is that really *just* an itch?

Or is it the first symptom of an internal malignancy?  And is that fluid in the ear making you a little spinny or (cue to forboding music) is it a sign of a brain stem stroke?
Oh-oh…lost weight lately? (even if you’re on Weight Watchers)…You’d better get your affairs in order!!!!
I don’t know about you but [...]

A Parent to Parent Chat on ADHD

Just had to share a few comments that I’ve received from parents who read my ebook:
Pam, via email:
I read and re-read your book and gained so much peace from it I was able to put the worry behind me and just let it soak in for a while.  Thank you!  Thank youfor writing the book.  [...]

The welfare state of religion

I was talking with a dear friend last night.  She was telling me about the time her husband used to sell cars. “He loved selling to the g*y/homose*xu*l community.”
She saw my eyebrows go up.
“They didn’t try to get a discount,” she finished.  She went on to say how he hated seeing the Christians come in [...]

Get out of the way!

The longer I watch how my children learn the more I learn that the greatest thing I can do in instructing them is….are you ready for this one….Get out of the way.
Children are natural learners.  Now granted, they don’t naturally want to learn their multiplication.  (Though a PBS progam on “Fractals” a few weeks ago [...]

False memories

My son may very well end up in politics.  He’s getting the lingo down pat and could charm the coat off of an Eskimo in a snow storm
This morning he was all eager to head out the door to get some wood salvaged from an old barn.  (This child *always* has a need for more [...]
